Hallelujah, Balshaw is out of the starting lineup to play Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday 8th March.

Unfortunately, he’s still considered good enough to make the 22.

But it does beg the question – why bring Simpson-Daniel in only the training squad only to ditch him at the first opportunity? Surely he didn’t get seriously injured again already?

Earlier in the season, the bench genuinely had an impact look about it. That’s gone now.
Good players though they are, I can’t see Narraway, Hodgson, Tait or Balshaw coming on and turning a game (to the positive that is, Iain).

Otherwise, there are still too many Newcastle players in the squad for my liking.
